Hi, I'm Eric Klein from EMK and I make music! I've been making and performing music since I was around 4 years old.
Major inspirations in my work tend to be retrofuturism, science fiction, hauntology, and dystopic visions of the future. Compositionally, I'm often inspired to try new (to me) techniques to see where they take me. Things I have experimented with include various time signatures and minimalist techniques such as phasing. I tend to write music with just the spark of an idea, and let the music dictate the direction it ends up taking. I'm definitely a fan of "happy accidents."
My musical influences include Boards of Canada, Tycho, Com Truise, and Mitch Murder. I listen to a huge smorgasbord of genres from jazz to rock to hair metal to dancehall. I like just about everything other than pop country.
I currently use Bitwig Studio for all music production as I find the built-in instruments and effects to be excellent, and the workflow is great. Just about any sound you hear on my music started out as a Bitwig preset, and was modified from there to suit the song. My earlier music was generally made in Ableton Live or Reaper, with various free VSTs.
My current hardware setup for music production is an M-Audio Axiom 25 (gen 1) and a Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 with KRK RP5 G4 monitors. I also use a Steelseries Arctis 7 headset and a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 headphones. On older projects I used various other gear, most notably the Korg Volca Bass, Keys, and Beats, along with a Novation Launchpad.
